Chris Potter as winner of Tenor Saxophonist of the Year
Renowned musician, composer and arranger Chris Potter won the Tenor Saxophonist of the Year Award from the Jazz Journalists Association for the second year in a row.
Since arriving on the New York scene in 1989 (at the age of 18) alongside bebop icon Red Rodney, Chris Potter has steadily developed as an instrumentalist and composer-arranger. In 2000, he became the youngest musician ever to win the prestigious Danish Jazzpar Prize.
Described by Dave Liebman as "one of the best musicians in the world", Chris Potter has just won the Jazz Journalists Association's Tenor Saxophonist of the Year Award for the third time (after his victory in 2013 and 2019).
The artist is known for his taste for innovation, exploration, changes in genre and texture. In his latest album, Circuits (2019), he continues his exploration of groove with pianist and keyboardist James Francies, drummer Eric Harland and electric bassist Linley Marthe.
