Ricardo Pires

Ricardo Pires has developed a work of creative collaboration that materialized in the creation of works for Saxophone and Electronics, Solo Saxophone and Saxophone and String Orchestra, namely Concertino and A Eternidade de um Coração, by Alexandre Almeida; Speech!, by Diogo Novo Carvalho; Ao Longe meu Pai Dizia…, by Ângela da Ponte, Keep Up!, by Jorge Ramos; The Poetry Underground, by Pedro Lima; Seek your Way Out by Francisco Fontes and 7 Miniatures by Daniel Davies.

In 2023 he presented his new work: Windsor Project, which was nominated for the 'Best Classical/Erudite Music Album’ category at the 6th PLAY - Portuguese Music Awards. The disc has the support of the GDA Foundation, Antena 2, MPMP, Revista Musical Da Capo and The Anglo Portuguese Society (London).

Ricardo performed as a soloist with the European Union Youth Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra, MPMP Orchestra, National Republican Guard Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Amicis, EPME Classical Orchestra, National Republican Guard Symphonic Band, Portuguese Symphonic Band, Lisbon Superior Music School Wind Orchestra and Lisbon Superior Music School Saxophone Ensemble.

He collaborates with several orchestras and ensembles such as the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra, the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, the Clássica do Sul Orchestra and the Cinema Music Orchestra and the Lisbon Underground Music Ensemble.

Ricardo is a laureate in several competitions, of which the Prémio Jovens Músicos - Antena 2 - RTP, 1st prize in 2009 and 2nd prize in 2002; 3rd prize in the II Victor Santos International Competition; and 1st prize in the Young Soloist EPME Competition in 2001 and 2002.

Ricardo holds a master’s degree in music, a master’s degree in music teaching and obtained the Artist Diploma (Post-master’s degree), having worked during his academic career with João Figueiredo, Francisco Ferreira, José Massarrão, Alberto Roque and John Harle.

He received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, GDA Foundation, Guildhall School Trust; Drake Calleja Trust; The Kathleen Trust and Sir Richard Stapley Educational Trust.

Ricardo is a musician of the National Republican Guard Symphonic Band and Saxophone teacher at the Sintra Conservatory of Music.
