Filomeno Ortíz García
Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, Filomeno Ortíz García is currently one of the most outstanding Mexicans in the field of performing and teaching music on the classical saxophone. He currently teaches at the National Conservatory of Music and at the School of Music "Life and Movement" of the Ollin Yoliztli Cultural Center, two of the most important music schools in the country. In addition, he is Principal Saxophone of the Symphony Orchestra of the Secretary of the Navy.
Filomeno Ortíz completed his master's studies at the Faculty of Music of the University of Montreal, Canada, under the tutelage of Jean-François Guay. He has performed on various stages in Montreal (Canada), Saumur (France) and Libya. As a soloist, he has participated with several orchestras in his country, such as the Querétaro Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the National Conservatory of Music, the University Orchestra of Popular Music, Camerata Oaxaca, the Symphony Orchestra of the Secretary of the Navy, the Symphony Orchestra of Oaxaca, the Symphony Orchestra of Coyoacán and the Chamber Orchestra of the School of Fine Arts of Oaxaca. He has also participated in numerous saxophone festivals such as the International Festival Zacatecas 2019, Clari-Sax Yucatán 2019, 1st Clarinet and Saxophone Festival Oaxaca 2018, 2nd International Saxophone Congress Xalapa 2017, XIII International University Saxophone Festival UNAM 2014. He is a finalist in the competitions organized by the UNAM and in the 1st National Clarinet and Saxophone Congress of Oaxaca. As a saxophonist, he has been invited to play as a soloist in practically all the professional orchestras in Mexico, he often participates in different festivals and congresses in Latin America.
