Frédéric Gastard

Frédéric Gastard trained as a saxophonist in classical and contemporary music, then in improvised music at the Paris Conservatoire. Over the last few years he has taken part in a number of projects combining writing and improvisation, notably with Journal Intime (with Mathias Mahler and Sylvain Bardiau), La Campagnie des Musiques à Ouir (with Denis Charolles and Christophe Monniot, then Remi Sciuto, then Alexandre Authelin), Marc Ducret Quintet, Mélosolex (with Denis Charolles and Vincent Peirani), Fred Pallem's Le Sacre Du Tympan and the brass band Les Faux Frères.

He has performed and recorded with a host of singers including Jacques Higelin, André Minvielle, Tricky, Eric Lareine, Brigitte Fontaine, Loic Lantoine and Camille Bazbaz. A saxophonist, composer and arranger, he also writes for dance (La Compagnie Montâgne), theatre (Julie Berres/Cie Les Cambrioleurs) and chanson (‘Eric Lareine et leurs enfants’, Jacques Higelin ‘Coup de Foudre’).
