Juan Antonio Ramírez Pérez
Born in Anna, Valencia, Juan Antonio Ramírez Pérez was academically trained at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Valencia, in the specialty of saxophone, which he was in charge of for more than 10 years. He finished his saxophone training in Paris with Professor Daniel Deffayet.
He has also been professor at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Superior Conservatory of Music "Salvador Seguí" in Castellón and is currently professor at the Professional Conservatory of Music of Valencia.
He was president of the World Saxophone Congress in the city of Valencia in 1997 and was a member of the international jury for the Adolphe Sax Competition in Dinant, Belgium.
He has been the artistic director of the cycle "L'Héritage de Sax" which has been held at the Palau de la Música in Valencia for more than fifteen years.
He has shared the stage with Daniel Deffayet, Claude Delangle, Pedro Iturralde, Arno Bornkamp, Vasko Vassilev, Ana María Sánchez, among others.
Composers have dedicated more than a dozen works to him, including the composer José Nieto, winner of six Goya prizes in his career, who composed the work Impulso, among others.
He played the European premiere of John Williams' Escapades with the Orchestra of Valencia, of which he has also been Principal Saxophone for twenty-seven years. He performs Claude Debussy's Rhapsody with the Valencia Orchestra and under the direction of Michel Plasson as part of the season of subscription concerts at the Palau de la Música in Valencia.
He has worked under the direction of teachers such as Lorin Maazel, Zubin Metha, Yaron Traub, Michel Plasson and Valery Gergiev, among others.
His professional career as a saxophonist has led him to perform with orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestra of the Mediterranean, the Timisoara Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra and Choir of the Kirov Opera Theatre of St. Petersburg, the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife, the Galician Symphony Orchestra, Bilbao, the Orchestra of the Valencian Community and the Symphony Orchestra of Alicante, with whom he premiered Joan Enric Canet's Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra.
He recorded Roger Boutry's Divertimento accompanied by the composer.
He conducts and performs Alexander Glazunov's Concerto for alto saxophone and orchestra with soloists from Covent Garden in London.
He has been a member of the Adolphe Sax Quartet in Valencia for thirty years.
