Lorena Ríos Gómez
Master in Art from the University of Antioquia in 2012 and 2013, Lorena Ríostook a postgraduate degree in Saxophone Performance in the Superior Conservatory of Music in Castile and Leon, (Salamanca, Spain) with Maestro Andrés Gomis. She is a graduate of the University of Antioquia as a professor of saxophone, under Esneider Valencia and Wilson Ferrer after having begun her studies in the Network of Music Schools of Medellín.
Winner of the ICETEX scholarship for Young Talents, Lorena Ríos has participated in cultural exchanges like performer, teacher and speaker in the United States, Peru, Spain, Mexico, Croatia, Argentina and Portugal.
She has been the soloist in the International Saxophone Festival, Bellas Artes, Cali (2017, 2019), played with the Symphonic Orchestra of Cusco (2016), with the Symphonic Orchestra of National Conservatory of Mexico City (2018), with the Band of the Network of Music Schools of Medellín (2011, 2017), and in the XVI Yamaha Music International Seminar (2010). She took part in the First Latin-American Saxophone Contest with Maestros Miguel Villafruela and Carlos Averoff. She also took part in the Master class seminar with the international performer and teacher Jean-Marie Londeix in 2013.
She has performed under the direction of Frank de Vyust, and has taken master classes under Claude Delangle, Emiliano Bari, Erich Marienthal, Josetxo Silguero and Jaime Uribe. She also played with different Medellín groups such as the Philharmonic Orchestra of Medellín, the EAFIT Symphonic Orchestra, the Children and Youth Orchestra of Medellín, the University of Antioquia’s Symphonic Band and Mestizaje Trio, with which she has performed in different Colombian cities.
Currently she is working in teaching and musical research in the context of Latin American saxophone music, where through collaborations with Colombian composers she hopes to nurture the saxophone repertory available at present. She is presently teaching saxophone at the University of Antioquia and the Network Music Schools of Medellín. She is the soprano saxophone player of CLAM Women´s Latin American Quartet, group formed by performers from Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Colombia.
