Mario Giovannelli

Thanks to his wide experience and his skills, Mario Giovannelli is considered, in Italy, the reference point for saxophonist musicians of symphonic orchestras and one of the most remarkable talents of his generation.

In 1992 he was among the winners of the Italian National Competition (exams and titles) to teach saxophone in Italian National Conservatories of Music and actually teaches in Conservatorio "Nicolini" in Piacenza. In 1997 he won an international audition and became the official saxophonist of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. He also won three national and two international sax competitions for saxophone and/or chamber music.

He got two diplomas: saxophone (10/10) and clarinet (10/10 Cum Laude) and also studied composition for five years.

Mario Giovannelli also plays jazz and he had the privilege to play side by side with illustrious musicians such as Lee Konitz, Steve Lacy, E. Pierannunzi, S. Bollani and other outstanding musicians, recording with them for Fonit Cetra, EMI, RTI…

Some compositions for saxophone were dedicated to him and he composed music for the TEATRO LENZ (prose theatre) in Parma on the novel The player of Dostoevsky (1991). He also collaborated as soloist with ATERBALLETTO-Italian National Dance Foundation (Reggio Emilia), playing music of Bruno Moretti, and TEATRO DUE (prose theatre. Parma).

He was invited on the board of prestigious, national and international, sax and chamber music competitions.

In 2008 he obtained (in collaboration with Fabrizio Ceriani) a relevant national and international patent for a new processing of saxophone’s necks.
