Massimo Mazzoni
Massimo Mazzoni completed his studies at the Conservatory ”G. Rossini”, Pesaro, Italy and Conservatory of Bordeaux, France under the guidance of Jean-Marie Londeix. He is considered one of the major Italian performers of classical and contemporary saxophone repertory.
Has performed with many symphonic orchestras, including Rai Torino, Rai Milano, Filarmonica del Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Teatro Communale di Firenze and Arena di Verona working under numerous directors, including Pretre, Sawallish, Oren, Gavazzeni, and Muti.
Performed as a soloist with the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and the Orchestra Sinfonica Rai di Torino at the Biennale Musica di Venezia.
A constant study as well as experimentation of the inedited sound possibilities of the saxophone keep him very active in the research and development of contemporary music. Over 70 compositions have been dedicated to him.
Performed concerts as a soloist, in duo with piano, as well as with chamber groups in Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, China, Greece, Spain, Japan, the United States, Sweden, and Turkey. Has held master classes and concerts in Usa (Columbia University), China (Superior Conservatory of Music Beijing) and Portugal (Conservatory of Music in Lisbon).
He is a founder of the Italian Saxophone Quartet and has performed regularly with this group all over the world since 1982.
He recorded for the Italian Edition BMG, Edipan, Ricordi, Pentaphon and Andersen of Japan. Has collaborated with the Conservatory of St. Cecilia in Rome; the Conservatory of Frankfurt in Germany as well as with various American Universities as Guest Professor.
As President of the Italian Saxophonists Association has organized the annual International Saxophone Stage since 1994 at the Conservatory of Fermo, Italy. Currrenlty, he is also Professor of Saxophone at the G.B. Pergolesi Conservatory of Music in Fermo, where he was previously Director from 2011 to 2017.
