Artur Mendes
Arthur Mendes was born in Figueira da Foz, Portugal, in 1986 and gratuated from Lisbon Superior Music School.
In 2008 he was admitted at National Republican Guard Symphonic Band – Portugal. He was awarded at several Saxophone competitions and performed in Portugal, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic, Brasil and Taiwan. He appeared as soloist with the National Conservatory Music School Wind Orchestra, National Republican Guard Chamber Orchestra, Cascais & Oeiras Chamber Orchestra, Oporto Military Band and with the National Republican Guard Symphonic Band.
He has collaborated with several composers in the creation and dissemination of a new repertoire with Saxophone, already counting on some dedications by Nelson Jesus, Christian Lauba, Ida Gotkovsky, Baljinder Sekhon, Mischa Zupko, etc.
Ever interested in chamber music, he is part of the AiDuo group with Iryna Brazhnik (with which he recorded in 2006 the album On the way...) and Tejo Quartet (Saxophone Quartet).
He was a teacher at Lisbon National Conservatory Music School (2011-2013) and Jaime Chavinha Music Conservatory in Minde (2010/2013) and teached numerous master classes in Portugal, the Czech Republic and Brazil.
In addition to his activity as classical musician, Artur Mendes has collaborated with the most diverse projects such as Fado, Popular Music, Musical Theatre, among others.
