Marijke Schröer
As an enthusiastic chamber music performer, Marijke Schröer is a member of the Melisma Saxophone Quartet, the Noota Saxophone Duo, the Nederlands Saxofoon Octet, and forms the duo Saxyon with accordionist Ellen Zijm. She has performed concerts in Europe, China, Japan, and Mexico, appearing in prestigious venues such as the National Center of Performing Arts in Beijing, Izumi Hall Osaka, CCMAS Morelia, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Utzon Center Aalborg, and Casino Bern.
Marijke has appeared at numerous festivals, including the Davos Festival (Switzerland), the Grieg Festival in Bergen (Norway), the EURO Chamber Music Festival Gdansk (Poland), and Festival Classique (The Hague). Her concerts have been recorded and broadcast by national radio stations in the Netherlands, Spain, Mexico, Switzerland, and Denmark.
Several composers have dedicated compositions to her, including Bernard van Beurden, Ad Wammes, Koldo Pastor, Enrique Mendoza, Christian Lauba, Dolf de Kinkelder, and Luis Aguirre. Additionally, Marijke has initiated inspiring projects where she shared the stage with yogis, choirs, dancers, actors, and many fellow musicians.
The debut CD of the Nederlands Saxofoon Octet, Canto Ostinato, presented in a sold-out Concertgebouw Amsterdam, received rave reviews, as did No Filter by Saxyon, and the debut CD of the Melisma Saxophone Quartet, West Side Story recorded with violinist Gwendolyn Masin.
Marijke completed her master's degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under Arno Bornkamp. She obtained her bachelor's degree at the Prins Claus Conservatorium under Peter Stam.
In addition to her work as a saxophonist, Marijke is the artistic director of the Uitgast Festival in Lelystad, the chief programmer of the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, and works as an advisor for the Fonds Podiumkunsten.
