Severin Neubauer
Severin Neubauer, born in 1998 in Vienna to a family of professional musicians, embarked on his musical journey at the age of 8, learning the saxophone initially under the guidance of his father, Stefan Neubauer, and later at the Regional Music School in Leobendorf. From 2012 to 2015, Severin studied at the Johann-Sebastian-Bach Music School (JSBM) in Alfred Reiter's class as a “Special Class” student. He further honed his skills as a pre-college student at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, followed by studies with Gerald Preinfalk at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG), where he graduated with distinction. His education was enriched by masterclasses with renowned artists such as Arno Bornkamp, Nikita Zimin, George Garzone, Nicolas Arsenijevic, and Ryo Noda, among others.
Since 2022, Severin has been pursuing studies in jazz and improvised music under Fabian Rucker at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz.
Severin has showcased his playing through numerous solo performances with prestigious orchestras, including the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, “Rondo Solisti” Chamber Orchestra, Waidhofen Chamber Orchestra, Bisamberg Symphony Orchestra, and the Franz Schmidt Chamber Orchestra, both domestically and internationally (including the USA, Greece, Germany, and Thailand), collaborating with prominent conductors such as Patrick Hahn.
He is an active member of the esteemed contemporary music ensembles Platypus and Ensemble Wiener Collage. In addition, he is part of the SPECTRUM Saxophone Quartet, with which he released his debut CD en dehors in 2023 and received the NASOM scholarship from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service (BMIA). Severin also performs with chamber music ensembles such as DUO Neubauer, alongside his father Stefan Neubauer, and the Trio SMS. He has performed in some of the most prestigious halls, including Musikverein Wien, Konzerthaus Wien, and Musikverein Graz, both as a soloist and chamber musician.
Severin's dedication to contemporary music has been recognized through several compositions written specifically for him.
Severin's artistry has been acknowledged with numerous accolades, including 2nd place at the international Woodwind and Brass Grand Prix in Varazdin, as well as multiple 1st prizes at the Prima la Musica competition at both the regional and national levels.
Severin has gained substantial orchestral experience with renowned orchestras, including the Stage Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera, the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, the Mozarteum Orchestra, the Philharmonie Salzburg, and the Vienna Volksoper Orchestra.
