Romeu Costa
Romeu Costa began his studies at Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian of Aveiro and graduated from ESMAE, Escola Superior de Música e das Artes do Espectáculo do Porto.
In 2002, he obtained the 3rd prize in the Saxophone category, Higher Level of the Prémio Jovens Músicos of the RDP, Antena2.
His concert career has been consisting in solo and chamber music presentations. As a soloist, he privileges and enriches the contemporary repertoire for saxophone
encouraging and collaborating with composers, such as Luís Cardoso, Chiel Meijering, Tjako van Schie, Teresa Gentil, Óscar Graça, Jeffery Davis and Paulo Bastos.
As a founder member of QuadQuartet has toured around Europe and premiered several works dedicated to the quartet which have been edited in two records, Now Boarding (2009) and Fuse (2012). He has also been a co-founder of the DONAR Baritone Saxophone Duo and participated in records by La La La Ressonance (Outdoor, 2009), Dear Telephone (Cut, 2017) and Remix Ensemble (James Dillon: Philomela, 2006). Together with harpist Beatriz Cortesão he is a founder member of H&X Duo.
Romeu is a frequently invited saxophonist in the Remix Ensemble, Casa da Música, which dedicates itself exclusively to contemporary music, and in the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto working with conductors such as Peter Rundel, Emilio Pomàrico, Heins Holliger; Peter Eötvös, Rolf Gupta, Stefan Asbury, Jonathan Stockhammer, among others.
He develops an intense pedagogical activity as a Saxophone teacher at Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian of Braga as well as being responsible for the “Saxophone Literature & Technique” subject at the University of Aveiro and being invited to give master classes.
