Angelos Politis
Born in 1979 Angelos Politis received his first lessons of clarinet in the Philharmonic Society of Corfu. Since 1997 he has attended clarinet classes at the Athens Conservatory, where he obtained his Clarinet diploma in 2002 with 'Excellent' honors and distinction.
He continued his studies at the École Normale de Musique de Paris as a fellow of the Hellenic Foundation of Scholarships (I.K.Y.), with Guy Dangain. In 2005 he obtained the "Diplôme supérieur de Concertiste" and in 2006 the “Diplôme de Perfectionnement” from the Paris ENM.
In January 2005 he won the First Prize at the European Clarinet competition of the City of Amiens (Picardie, France).
He has collaborated with all major Greek Orchestras (the Orchestra of Colors, the Camerata Chamber Orchestra of Athens, the Athens National Opera and the Athens State Orchestra). He has also collaborated with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Essen, the Zagreb Opera Orchestra and with the Orchestra Dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
Angelos has given recitals as a soloist in salle Cortot in Paris, “Megaron” Athens Concert Hall, Parnassus Hall of Athens etc., has performed as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the city of Athens, the National Orchestra of the Greek Radio Television (E.R.T.) and with the Camerata chamber orchestra of Athens.
He often plays chamber music as a founding member of Aeolos Woodwind Quintet and other Greek chamber music groups. He recently participated with the Aeolos Woodwind Quintet in the recording of the CD Greek Wind Quintets that was released world widely by Naxos (Greek classics).
Many Greek composers have entrusted him with the first execution of their clarinet pieces and the famous Greek composer Theodoros Antoniou has dedicated to him his clarinet quintet and concerto.
He teaches the clarinet at the Athens Conservatory. He is often called as member of jury in music competitions such as the International clarinet competition "Marco Fiorindo" (November 2012, Turin) and the 7th International Competition for Woodwind Quintets "Henri Tomasi" (February 2013, Marseille).
He is Principal clarinet with the National Orchestra of the Greek Radio Television (ERT).
Angelos plays with the Selmer Privilège clarinets.
