Michiyo Sato
Michiyo Sato holds the esteemed position of Principal Clarinetist with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and serves as a part-time lecturer at Tokyo University of the Arts.
She completed her musical education at Tokyo University of the Arts, graduating from both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Michiyo's exceptional talent has been recognized with awards at prestigious competitions, including the 9th and 12th Japan Winds and Percussion Competitions. She clinched the first prize at the 1st Tama Fresh Music Competition and dominated the 4th Japan Woodwind Competition, securing first prize along with the Asahi Shimbun Award and the Hyogo Prefecture Governor's Award.
Further adding to her accolades, Michiyo earned the 2nd Prize and the E. Nakamichi Prize at the 63rd Japan Music Competition. Her remarkable artistry has led her to perform concertos with acclaimed orchestras such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic, Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra, and more. Audiences have also enjoyed her performances on NHK Saturday Recital.
In 2013, Michiyo embarked on a journey of musical enrichment, studying in Paris as an overseas trainee of the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
