François Sauzeau
Music has been indispensable to Francois Sauzeau from an early age. After studying with Ulysse Delécluse, Guy Deplus, Christian Lardé and Jean Hubeau at the CRR in Bordeaux and the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP), his awareness of the need to share music with others became obvious. He has held the position of principal clarinet with the Orchestre National de Lyon since 1984.
He has performed under the artistic direction of Serge Baudo, Alain Lombard, Kurt Sanderling, Raphael Frubeck de Burgos and Eliahu Inbal, Leonard Slatkin, Nicolaj Szeps Znaider and has interpreted various concerti (Weber, Mozart, Copland Debussy, Richard Strauss, etc.), under the baton of Emmanuel Krivine, Sergy Semkov , David Robertson, Jun Märkl. He has worked with Luciano Berio on the Sequenza for clarinet and with Olivier Messiaen on the Quatuor pour la fin du temps, Betsy Jolas and Guillaume Connesson.
François Sauzeau created a piccolo opera Awatsihu with libretto and music by Philippe Forget and sets by painter Etienne Yver. In 2012, with the Opéra Théâtre de Lyon, he created Macbeth, based on a libretto by André Fornier after Shakespeare and music by Philippe Forget.
