Gonzalo Esteban
Esteban Gonzalo was born in Madrid, studied in San Sebastián at “Musikene “ with Jose Luis Estellés and Anthony Pay, continue his musical formation privately with Vicent Alberola in Madrid and Alessandro Carbonare at “Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia ” in Rome. Ending his journey as a student at the “Akademie Stadt” in Basel, learning chamber music with Sergio Azzolini.
He is currently Principal clarinet at Malaysian Philarmonic Orchestra and former Clarinet player at Verbier Chamber Festival Orchestra (VFCO). He is member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (GMJO) and Verbier Festival Orchestra from 2009-2014.
Gonzalo plays as a guest with orchestras such a Staatskapelle Dresden, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Shangai Philarmonic Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Orchestra of Castilla y León ,Madrid Symphony Orchestra, Radio orchestra of Spain, Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Teatro del Liceo, City of Granada Orchestra, Macao Orchestra and works with conductors such as Herbert Blomsted, Antonio Pappano, Rafael Frubeck de Burgos†, Sir Colin Davis †, Semyon Bichkov, Charles Dutoit, Jaap Van Zweden, Valery Gergiev, Daniel Harding, Fabio Luisi among others.
With the woodwind quintet Azahar Ensemble he obtained diverse awards like ARD Munich competition 2nd prize (no first prize given), IFP prize and audience prize in 2014.
As a soloist, Gonzalo has performed many works including, a recent tour with the Malaysian Philarmonic Orchestra playing A.Copland Clarinet Concerto.
Gonzalo was Visiting professor for clarinet and chamber music in Nanyang academy of fine arts (NAFA) Singapore, during 2017-2018 and gave master classes in Malaysia, Singapore, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Switzerland, Canada, Spain among other countries.
