Leonid Popov
Born in 1988 in Simferopol (Ukraine), Leonid Popov started to learn playing clarinet at the age of 9. In 2006 Leonid finished Kharkov High Music School. In 2011 he finished Kharkov National University of Arts. His teacher - Valeriy Altuhov - is one of the most well-known clarinet teachers in Ukraine.
At 19 years old (2008) Leonid became a principal clarinet of Kharkov Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2011 he is a principal clarinet of Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Leonid won many awards at clarinet competitions in Ukraine. Also he is a finalist of the First International Clarinet Competition in Kortrijk, Belgium (2010). Leonid has a 3rd Prize of the First International Lisbon Clarinet Competition (2011) and a Honorable Mention Prize of the Second International Clarinet Competition in Ghent, Belgium (2013). As a soloist he performed at many concerts in Ukraine with many orchestras. Also he has performances with the Brussel Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of the world-famous clarinetist Paul Meyer and with String Quartet of The Brussel Philharmonic.
