Long Zhang
Long Zhang was the Principal clarinet of the Shanghai Opera and is currently the Principal bass clarinet of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra.
Long Zhang studied with Michel Lethiec at the Conservatoire National de Musique de Nice, where he received the Prix de Perfectionnement and obtained his soloist degree from the University of Nice.
During his studies in France, Long Zhang began his soloist career in Europe and China. He played in Mozart's Clarinet Concerto with the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Philippe Auguin. As far as orchestras are concerned, he has been a guest clarinetist and has collaborated with the Cannes Symphony Orchestra conducted by Philippe Bender, as well as teaching in many music schools in Nice.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Long Zhang has also given master classes in Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuhan, Urumqi and other cities in China. He has been invited to participate in music festivals in Shanghai, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Nice, Xi'an, Chongqing, among others. His playing style includes both classical and contemporary music, especially on the creation, performance and innovation of contemporary music.
In 2016, he formed his own chamber music orchestra with teachers from Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the group regularly performs commissioned works created by Danish and Chinese composers at the Pulsar Contemporary Music Festival in Copenhagen and the Vienna University of the Arts, the group has recorded a compact disc with Naxos Records.
