Tiago Menino
Tiago Menino was born in 1987 and began his musical studies at age of 10, with his father, António Menino, at the band of Sociedade Imparcial 15 de Janeiro de 1898, in his hometown of Alcochete (Portugal). At the age of 15 he enters at “Conservatório Nacional” in Lisbon, in the class of Professor Luís Gomes.
Tiago received his diploma by “Instituto Piaget de Almada” in the class of Professors Luís Gomes, Rui Martins and Filipe Dias. In his last year he frequented “Real Conservatório Superior de Musica de Madrid” (Spain) with the renowned Professor Justo Sanz, as an Erasmus student.
He also had frequented Master Degree in performance, at “Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra” (Lisbon) in class of Professor Nuno Silva. He has a Master in Music Teaching by ESML, in the class of Professor Manuel Jerónimo.
Menino has played as 1st clarinet and soloist with “Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil” (Lisbon) and the Wind Orchestra of the “Conservatório Nacional” (Lisbon). He works as a freelancer with some portuguese orchestras as: “Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa”, “Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa”, “Orquestra Ibérica”, “Orquestra de Câmara do Alentejo”, “Tetraktis Ensemble”, etc.
Tiago had the opportunity to work with such conductors as: Jean-Sebastien Bereau, Mitchell Fennel, Jo Conjaerts, Felix Hauswirth, Christopher Bochmann, Pedro Carneiro and Délio Gonçalves. He had also frequented several masterclasses with some clarinet references like Karl Leister, Guy Deplus, Walter Boeykens, Antony Pay, Philippe Cuper, Philippe Berrod, Fabrizio Meloni, Justo Sanz, Yehuda Gilad, Romain Guyot, Dominique Vidal, Ronald Van Spaendonck, Pascual Martinez, Jerome Vehaeghe, Radovan Cavallin, Paolo Beltramini, Antonio Salguero, António Saiote, Luís Gomes, Nuno Silva, Joaquim Ribeiro, Rui Martins etc.
As a soloist, Menino performed with the Selmer Clarinets Ensemble, at Europarque, in Santa Maria da Feira (Portugal) and in 2013, conducted by north-american Maestro Mitchell Fennell played the piece Black Dog by Scott McAllister for clarinet and symphonic band, with some of the best Portuguese bands. In the year of 2015, he premiered Em Trânsito, a piece for clarinet, alto sax and symphonic band, by Helder Bettencourt which was dedicated to him and to saxophonist Hélder Alves. Menino also premiered in Portugal Concerto for Clarinet and Wind Ensemble by composer Frank Tichelli and later performed it with the Portugal Air Force Band.
Menino has won the 1st prize at “2.º Concurso Internacional de Clarinete – Tenerife ClarinetFest 2019” (Spain), the 1st prize at “1.º Concurso Internacional de Clarinete, Gran Canaria Internacional Clarinet Festival” (Spain), the 3rd prize at competition “Prémio José Augusto Alegria”, at Évora (Portugal) and has also be finalista and semi -finalist at several international competitions, such as “Classic Winds” (Germany), “Czech Clarinet Art” (Czech Republic), “Marco Fiorindo” (Italy), “Saverio Mercadante” (Italy), “Gheorghe Dima” (Romania), etc.
Menino is actually teaching in “Conservatório Regional de Artes do Montijo” and he’s a member of “Orquestra de Câmara do Alentejo”.
