Carlos Gontijo
Carlos Gontijo specialized in saxofone by the Conservatoire de Musique de Rouen – France, master of music by the Université de Rouen, and he owns many national and international awards.
Natural from Brasília, Carlos Gontijo is one of the most active brazilian classical saxophonists from the new generation, in both national and international scenes.
As a soloist and a chamber musician has already played in the most important concert halls from Brasília, Goiânia, Brasília, Goiânia, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, São Paulo, Curitiba, Cuiabá, Vitória, Tatuí, Porto Alegre, Natal, Porto (Portugal), Montevidéu (Uruguai), Buenos Aires (Argentine), Paris (France), Amiens (France), Nantes (France), Rouen (France), Notre-Dame de Gravenchon (France), La Bouille (France), Madrid (Espanha), Dinant (Bélgica), and others.
He has already played with many conductors as: Neil Thomson (ENG), Carlos Prazeres (BRA), Elena Herrera (CUB/BRA), Roberto Farias (BRA), Leon Halegua (URU), Claude Brendel (FRA), Abel Rocha (BRA), Claudio Cohen (BRA), Daniel Lipton (CAN), Guilherme Mannis (BRA), David Juncker (BRA), Jorge Lisboa Antunes (BRA), Roberto Montenegro (URU), Kálmán Bérkes (HUN), Berislav Skenderovic (RUS), and in many orchestras as: Orquestra Filarmônica de Goiás, Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre, Orquestra Sinfônica do Teatro Nacional Cláudio Santoro, Orchestre de Chambre de Rouen (FR), Orchestre d’Harmonie de Grandcamp (FR), Orquestra da 4ª Semana da Música de Ouro Branco, Orchestre du Conservatoire de Rouen (FR), Camerata da UnB, Orquestra do CEP-EMB, Orquestras se Sopro dos 33o, 34o e 37o CIVEBRA, etc.
Carlos Gontijo is also graduated Bachelor of saxofone by the Universidade de Brasília and Technician in saxophone by the Escola de Música de Brasília (CEP-EMB). He received the orientation of the following grate saxophone masters: Carlos Eduardo (Boogie), Vadim Arsky, Dilson Florêncio, Marc Sieffert, Claude Delangle, Marie-Bernadette Charrier, Philippe Geiss, Vincent David, among others.
Nowadays, he follows the doctorate program in Performance (Saxophone) at the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), he is a member of the saxophone quartets Art&Sax and Brasília Sax, and also a member of the Banda Sinfônica da PMDF.
He dedicates his work to the research about the classical saxophone in Brazil focusing the publication of a book, works in collaboration with many orchestras and composers, premiering their works, performing concerts. He also performs master classes, lectures and workshops in musical festivals in Brazil and outside the country.
In April 2013 and in November 2014, he was the General Coordinator of the I and II Encontro de Saxofonistas de Brasília (ESAX BRASÍLIA) respectively, and in October 2015 he was the creator and the Artistic Director of the BRASÍLIA SAX FEST (Festival Internacional de Saxofone de Brasília).
