Five Sax Quintet
Five Sax was formed in 2011 in Vienna and since then have become a leading ensemble in their field. They have performed at many of the world's most important stages, including the Konzerthaus in Vienna, Gasteig Munich, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the National Concert Hall Taipei, as well as music festivals such as the Ludwigsburg Festival, Summerwinds Münsterland, and Allegro Vivo Chamber Music Festival.
The quintet's first stage show, Sax Voyage, inspired by the international spirit of the group, took them to concert stages in 20 countries throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia. Since the show's 2013 debut in Poland, nearly 200 venues have experienced Sax Voyage. However, all good things must come to an end, and the 2018-19 season saw the show's farewell: a 48-concert tour in the United States which spanned the entire country, with stops in 23 different states.
While Sax Voyage's exploration of international musical styles struck a chord with audiences, the quintet's next program takes a fresh approach. Titled In Time, the show explores the role that rhythm and groove have played at various moments in music history. Five Sax was proud to give the premiere to a sold-out audience at the Musikverein in Vienna.
In 2015 the quintet released their debut CD, Five Sax at the Movies. The recording has been widely praised for its creative arrangements of classic film tunes, and its success lead to a spin-off program for young audiences.
The members of the quintet are each well-established international artists, hailing from Poland, Italy, the United States, Chile and Hong Kong.
